A contingent of 140 Rwandan Police officers serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) were on June 20 decorated with UN medals for their selfless peacekeeping contribution.
The awarding ceremony was held in their camp in Gao region, Northern Mali.
MINUSMA Police commander, Francisco Osler thanked the Rwandan contingent for the great contribution to ensure peace in Mali.
"It is a great honor to award Rwanda contingent members on behalf of the United Nations in recognition of your incomparable service," Osler said.
He commended the Rwandan government for its efforts in ensuring and maintaining peace and stability in other countries.
The Rwanda Formed Police Unit Contigent Commander, Chief Supt. Bertin Mutezintare said Rwanda is committed to use its home-grown success stories to ensure peace in other countries including Mali.
The Rwandan contingent was also given certificates as sign of recognition of the great devotion showed during the tragic event occurred in Kidal from 16th to 21st May 2014 where they also protected civilians and UN personnel.
The awarding ceremony was also attended Mali officials and security forces, among others.
