Rwanda, Turkey sign security cooperation agreement

The governments of Rwanda and Turkey have signed security agreements to reinforce the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The pacts were signed in Ankara, Turkey on August 28 where a Rwandan delegation headed by the Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, is currently on a working visit.

The Rwandan delegation also includes the Inspector General of Police, CG Emmanuel K Gasana and the Commandant of the National Police College, Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye.

Minister Harerimana and his counterpart of Turkey, Mr. Sebahattin Öztürk signed the security cooperation agreement to strengthen the existing partnership in areas of capacity building, sharing of information on combatting transnational and organized crimes, and exchange programmes, among others. He also invited his counterpart to visit Rwanda who accepted the invitation.

At the same event, Rwanda's IGP Gasana and his counterpart of Turkey Police signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in areas of training, focusing on counter terrorism, cybercrimes, special forces training and Training of Trainers (ToT) courses, among others.

The agreement between the two police institutions shall see Rwanda National Police officers benefiting from courses offered at the Turkish National Police Academy.

The two parties considered providing Police Liaison Officers to expedite the implementation of the signed agreements.

In his remarks, Hon. Harerimana appreciated the hospitality with which the Turkish government accorded them and reiterated the commitment of the government of Rwanda in implementing the signed agreement.

The Turkish Minister of Interior, Mr. SEBAHATTIN pledged  the commitment of his government towards the success of the signed pacts.

While in Turkey, the Rwandan delegation visited different Turkish National Police Establishments and held bilateral discussion aimed at enhancing security cooperation.
