The Rwanda National Police (RNP) warns members of the community involved in vandalising and stealing public infrastructure and appealed to everyone to stand up against this act, which affects communities' well being and cost the country in terms of reparation.
A number of people have been apprehended in different parts of the country in connection with vandalising and stealing public infrastructure such as water pipes and electrical wires and pyrons.
On January 24, Police apprehended three people in Nyabagendwa cell, Rilima sector of Bugesera district for allegedly retreaving and stealing water pipes belonging to the Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA).
The pipes were supplying tapped water to communities in Nyabagendwa cell.
Police said the trio, who are currently detained at Nyamata Police Station, had already cut five metres of water pipes.
The District Police Commander, Supt. Donat Kanani warned anyone that could be involved in vandalising these public facilities.
"We have a list of indivuduals involved in this act. It's a matter of time to bring them to justice, and this should be a warning even to others," Supt. Kanani, who called upon the public to be vigilant and to protect these infrastructures, said.
He explained that together with local authorities, they have been conducting awareness programmes in communities to urged them to protect these facilities and report people involved.
