According to Police in the area, a Fuso truck with registration Number RAB 139I, which was heading to Kigali from Nyaruguru, went off the road at around 3AM leaving three people with minor injuries.

The truck was at the time carrying charcoals.

The cause of the accident is according to Police believed to have been to a slumbering driver who lost control of the truck only to find him and the other passengers lying down helpless in a trench while still inside the truck.

Police’s Fire and Rescue trucks intervened to save these helpless people after being notified by area residents.

While at the accident scene, Fire and Rescue Police Officers, helped the victims out after reportedly cutting the front part of the truck.

Senior Superintendent (SSP), Jean De Dieu Gashiramanga, the Commanding Officer (CO) for Fire and Rescue brigade, advised drivers to shun driving exhausted.

“Some road accidents, especially those that occur during night, are mostly blamed to some exhausted drivers who lose control as a result of slumber,” said SSP Gashiramanga advising drivers to take enough rest before making any trip.
