Rwanda National Police (RNP) has received a modern firefighting truck from Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL), further strengthening cooperation and enhancing disaster response capacity.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, CP Vincent Sano, received the truck on Friday, February 13, at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru. The MAN Model TGS 33.440 truck is equipped with specialized instruments for disaster and fire management.
Rusumo Power Company Limited, a regional power company supplying electricity to Rwanda, Tanzania, and Burundi, donated the firefighting vehicle as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, particularly in communities surrounding the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project.
While receiving the donation, DIGP Sano said the new firefighting truck will significantly boost timely national emergency responses.

“This donation is not only a material asset; it is a powerful expression of trust, solidarity, and shared responsibility… It will play a direct and meaningful role in safeguarding lives, protecting property, and reinforcing public safety and security,” DIGP Sano said.
He noted that the new fire engine will significantly enhance the Police’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to fire outbreaks and other emergencies, particularly in a rapidly developing society with growing infrastructure and population density.
“It will serve not only as an operational tool but also as a symbol of partnership between public institutions and private entities working together for the common good as we contribute to Rwanda’s broader development and security agenda,” he added.

While handing over the truck, RPCL Managing Director, Eric Mpayimana expressed appreciation for the partnership with the Rwanda National Police.
“The handing over of a firefighting truck to the Rwanda National Police is part of our corporate social responsibility in favor of the localities surrounding the Rusumo Dam,” Mpayimana said.
He reaffirmed RPCL’s commitment to contributing to socio-economic well-being in its member countries, particularly in fire and disaster management. He also emphasized support for communities around the Rusumo Dam and in Rwanda’s Eastern Province, notably Kirehe and Ngoma districts.
