Rwanda National Police launches volleyball academy to nurture future champions

Rwanda National Police (RNP) launched a Police Volleyball Academy on Thursday, June 26, at Lycée de Kigali (LDK), marking a significant step toward developing the next generation of volleyball talent in the country.

As part of the launch, Police Volleyball Club donated assorted essential training equipment to support both boys and girls academy teams.

Coaching responsibilities will be handled by Yves Iradukunda for the boys’ team and Jean de Dieu Masumbuko for the girls’ team. Both are assistant coaches with the Police VC senior teams and are expected to bring professional experience and technical depth to the academy.

Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) President, Rafael Ngarambe, praised RNP for taking a proactive role in talent development.

“This initiative marks a milestone in our national vision, where every volleyball team is encouraged to establish an academy to groom young talent,” Ngarambe said.

He urged the RNP volleyball teams not only to represent the institution but also to proudly carry the Rwandan flag in regional and international competitions.

Ngarambe commended the police leadership for their unwavering support, emphasizing that such programmes are valuable investments in Rwanda’s youth and sports development.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Diane Ntakirutimana, Secretary-General of Police VC, expressed gratitude to FRVB and LDK for their partnership.

“These collaborations are essential in building a strong volleyball culture in Rwanda.

We are also grateful to LDK leadership for their trust and to parents for supporting their children in pursuing their passion,” SP Ntakirutimana said.

SP Ntakirutimana highlighted the broader mission of the academy.

“The Police Volleyball Academy aims to empower children and youth who are passionate about volleyball by giving them a platform to develop and showcase their talent. Our goal is to raise individuals with confidence, integrity, dedication, and self-respect.”

To the young players, she said: "Make the most of this opportunity, work hard, love what you do, and always respect yourself and others. Volleyball is not just a sport—it teaches life values like teamwork, responsibility, and self-belief.”

The launch of the Police Volleyball Academy represents a key milestone in Rwanda’s broader sports development strategy, with the potential to shape a generation of volleyball stars who will make their mark both nationally and internationally.
