The Rwanda National Police, on Saturday joined hundreds of residents of Ndera in Gasabo district in a special community work – Umuganda where they cleared bushes on the 1.6 kilometre stretch where a road will be constructed.
The activity was organized by the Youth Unit Rwanda-Imihigo, an association that promotes hygiene and fight and prevents disasters.
Dominique Rwomushana, the president of youth association commended Rwanda National Police for its continued effort to protect the environment and to support community development.
He said the activity was organized to bring the youth together particularly students in holidays, to contribute to the national development.
Rwomushana said the exercise which started in Gasabo will be conducted in other parts of the country to engage the youth in the government’s development programmes.
“This is one of the effective ways to bring our efforts together towards our country’s development,” Rwomushana noted.
“Through such programmes, the youth get time to discuss on several other issues like fighting and preventing crimes including drug trade and consumption,” he added.
The district mayor, Willy Ndizeye, lauded the youth for the idea of mobilizing their colleagues to conduct such development activities.
He urged to continue with this campaign to sensitize others, to collectively play their role in crime prevention.
The exercise was also attended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Stanley Nsabimana.
