Rwanda National Police hosts Light Angels Academy pupils for educational tour

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Friday, May 8, hosted 50 nursery and primary school pupils from Light Angels Academy, located in Jabana Sector, Gasabo District, for an educational tour at the General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

The pupils, accompanied by eight teachers, toured various police departments and learned about the role of law enforcement in maintaining public safety and ensuring community security.

The visit aimed to provide young learners with practical knowledge about police operations while nurturing values of patriotism, responsibility, and community engagement.

During the tour, the children visited the Fire and Rescue Brigade (FRB), where officers educated them on fire risk prevention and demonstrated modern firefighting techniques, including the use of fire engines during emergency response operations.

The pupils also interacted with officers from the Canine Brigade and learned how police service dogs support security operations through search missions and the detection of narcotics, explosives, and other hazardous substances.

In addition, learners were introduced to Traffic and Road Safety operations, where they gained knowledge on safe road use and witnessed technological tools used by the police to enhance road safety, monitor traffic, and enforce traffic regulations, helping them understand the importance of responsible road behavior at an early age.

The Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Emanuel Kayigi, emphasized the importance of engaging young learners through educational outreach programmes.

“Receiving young children and introducing them to police work is an important investment in building a safer and more responsible society. Through such visits, children gain a better understanding of the role of the police in protecting communities, promoting safety, and upholding the law,” he said.

“Such programmes also strengthen trust and cooperation between the public and the police from an early age, while inspiring young people to become disciplined citizens who value community policing, road safety, and national service,” SSP Kayigi added.

Light Angels Academy headteacher, Ahimana Cécile, expressed gratitude to the Rwanda National Police leadership for providing the pupils with a valuable learning experience.

“We appreciate the Rwanda National Police for this visit, which allowed our students to understand the operations of different police units. Beyond gaining knowledge, it also provides a platform to showcase our country’s progress and instill a sense of patriotism, helping them grow into responsible citizens,” she said.

Ahimana noted that the visit helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical experience.

“When young students visit institutions like this one, they gain practical knowledge because they normally hear about what the police do in their daily operations, but they do not fully understand the practical aspects. Sometimes, such experiences inspire them to think about their future careers,” she added.

The educational tour forms part of the Rwanda National Police’s ongoing community engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening public awareness, fostering positive relations with citizens, and encouraging the young people in promoting safety and security.
