The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has assured exhibitors and visitors at the 29th Rwanda International Trade Fair (RITF 2026) of a safe and secure environment, while calling for their cooperation in maintaining public safety throughout the event.

RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, who represented the RNP leadership at the official opening, gave the assurance on Saturday, August 1, during a press conference held at the PSF Gikondo Expo Grounds in Kicukiro District.

The press conference was chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Antoine Kajangwe, and attended by representatives of the private sector, security organs, exhibitors and other partners.

Minister Kajangwe commended the RNP and other security organs for their continued efforts to ensure safety and security, noting that a secure environment gives exhibitors and visitors confidence to participate in the Trade Fair and conduct business.

"I would like to commend the Rwanda National Police and other security organs for their continued commitment to ensuring safety and security. The secure environment they provide gives exhibitors and visitors confidence to attend the Trade Fair, engage in business and showcase their products and services, while assured that their property and goods are protected," Minister Kajangwe said.

ACP Rutikanga said the large number of people attending the Trade Fair demonstrates public confidence in the security arrangements, adding that security organs remain prepared to respond to any incidents that may occur.

"When you see people attending in large numbers, it shows that they have confidence in a safe environment. We are also prepared to respond in case of an incident such as a fire. We remind people that even as they enjoy themselves, they should not engage in behaviours that could harm others, such as excessive drinking, excessive noise or other actions in the name of enjoyment," ACP Rutikanga said.

He also urged exhibitors and businesses to ensure the safety and quality of food and beverages offered to consumers, warning against the production and sale of substandard alcoholic beverages and other drinks that can endanger public health and safety.

"Our priority is the health and safety of Rwandans, and the measures we continue to take are aimed at protecting both. We therefore seek your cooperation in this effort. Let us work together to prevent those who produce and sell substandard alcoholic beverages and other drinks, whether openly or secretly, from harming people," ACP Rutikanga said.

ACP Rutikanga thanked the organisers, exhibitors, private sector and other partners for their cooperation in ensuring the safe and successful conduct of the Trade Fair.

"We thank all partners for their cooperation and contribution to ensuring the safety and success of this event. We remain committed to working closely with all stakeholders to maintain safety and security throughout the Trade Fair," ACP Rutikanga said.
