Rwamagana residents reminded of their role in community policing

The Mayor of Rwamagana District Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi appealed to the residents to maintain the spirit of partnership and preserve the existing safety and security.

He also urged them to be active in community development activities, protect and sustain what has been achieved.

This mayor was speaking on September 4 in Gishari Sector where he addressed residents.

The meeting was also attended by police officers and other local leaders.

Mbonyumuvunyi noted that through community policing, a lot has been reaped in terms of developmemt and safety and security.

He singled crimes related to domestic violence and drug abuse that are also said to be reported in GISHARI sector.

Mayor Mbonyumuvunyi asked residents to shun abetting acts of criminality including facilitating and hiding drug dealers.

Generally, he said, security is calm in the district largely due to the existing partnership and information sharing, but asked residents to report any wrongdoers in their vicinity, especially drug dealers.

“Involving yourself in acts of criminality will only affect your personal development in terms of money invested in dealing in narcotics, which are seized and destroyed, and the culprit imprisoned,” Mayor Mbonyumuvunyi said.

The District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Juvenal Kayiranga said, “One thing is clear; you will be identified and arrested in one way or another and the best way to avoid that is to refrain from such acts.”

He reminded them that fighting crimes and ensuring safety of their neighborhoods is equally their responsibility by reporting any illegal act they witness.
