Police in Rwamagana District have arrested one Jean Pierre Nshimiyimana a resident of Nyarugenge District Gitega sector and recovered Rwf 800,000Rfrw and smart Phone and household items worth Rwf 400,000.
According to the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson Chief inspector of police (CIP), Hamdun Twizeyimana the suspect was arrested in Gishari sector, Ruhimbi cell,Rwagahaya village.
He said a complaint was filed at Kimisagara police station in Nyarugenge District a fortnight ago by one Emerance Uwiringiyimana of missing money at clothes believed to have been stolen by Nshimiyimana who went into hiding after the money was reported missing.
“We established that the suspect fled to his home District of Rwamagana and shared information with police there who traced and arrested him from Gishari” said CIP Twizeyimana.
The suspect is currently still detained at Gishari Police station as investigations continue by Rwanda Investigation bureau officers.
According to law, theft is punishable a prison term of up to two years.
The suspect will be charged under section two, article 166 which states that “any person convicted of theft is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than one (1) year and not more than two (2) years and a fine of not less than one million Rwandan francs (FRW 1,000,000) and not more than two million Rwandan francs (FRW 2,000,000), community service in a period of six (6) months or only one of these penalties.
Police also urged residents to remain vigilant and secure their most valuable belongings.
“People should try to make due diligence before entrusting somebody with their valued possessions and money should be kept at the bank” said CIP Twizeyimana.
