Rwamagana: Mayor urges against excessive drinking

The mayor of Rwamagana District, Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi has urged residents to desist from bad practices of excessive drinking saying that they affect the families' saving and development.

He also warned against distilling and consuming illicit brew, which contains hazardous content.

The mayor, while addressing residents of Muhazi Sector on August 8, said that both excessive drinking and abuse of hazardous substances, influence bad and unlawful behavior including fighting and domestic conflicts, among others.

“Your wellbeing is the responsibility of the government, and that includes facilitating and advising you to invest your money in lawful ventures,” mayor Mbonyumuvunyi said.

He also urged owners of bars to open in evening hours.

The District Police Commander of Rwamagana, Supt. Edward Kizza, who thanked the rile of the community in crime prevention, also urged the residents to report distillers and sellers of illicit drinks and cannabis.

“Your safety is our responsibility but it's you duty as well. Safety and security starts with you where you live and pass. If you see anything unlawful or suspicious, always call the police,” the DPC told the residents.

He further warned against serving alcoholic drinks to minors, which is illegal and punishable by the law.
