Security organs, local leaders and members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (YVCP) in Rwamagana District met in November 27 to asses the security status in the district and to forge stronger partnership in dealing with the challenges where they still exist.
The district mayor Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi chaired the meeting which was also attended by all sector executive secretaries.
The mayor noted that the security status in the district continue to improve but called for ownership and stronger partnership in the implementation of security plans to preserve security mainly through community engagements.
“It is through proper coordination between the security organs, local leaders and the civil society such as youth volunteers, and the public that crime will be preventes,” said the mayor.
Mayor Mbonyumuvunyi, meanwhile, urged executive secretaries to sensitize the populace to engage in proper farming methods and other economic development activities to fight poverty.
The District Police Commander (DPC) Supt. Edward F. Kizza noted that the security strategies are based on designed patrol and community-oriented policing in a proactive and effective way towards sustainable security.
He implored grassroots leaders to actively engage in campaigns against gender based violence (GBV) and child abuse through sensitizations and reporting all those found violating rights of other citizens.
