Rwamagana: Grassroots leaders, residents told to strengthen partnership against crime

Residents of Muhazi Sector in Rwamagana District have been called upon to remain vigilant and work closely with the police and local leaders against potential loopholes that may be used by wrongdoers to commit crime.

Inspector of Police (IP) Marie Goreth Uwimana. the District Community Liaisons Officer for Rwamagana  made the appeal while meeting the residents on November 8.

The outreach exercise was also attended by local leaders in Muhazi sector.

They were also urged to embrace and enhance neighborhood watch to identity and report people they suspect to be involved in unlawful acts.

IP Uwimama reminded village and cell leaders of their duty as members of community policing committees, and appealed to them to also sensitise the residents on their role in fighting and preventing crime through real time information sharing with the police.

“As heads of community policing committees, encourage residents to actively work with you and the police to address issues that could facilitate crime,” she said.

She cited drug trafficking and abuse, distillation of illicit brew, child abuse including child pregnancy and gender based violence as some of the high impact crimes that should be given emphasis to address them.

Egide Hanyurwimfura, the executive secretary for Muhanzi sector reiterated the need for collectives and common focus in building their communities, before adding that without security and community harmony, development cannot be registered.
