Rwamagana: Cyclists reminded to adhere to road safety standards

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) road safety awareness campaigns have continued in Rwamagana District where commercial cyclists were urged to strictly adhere to road safety rules to avoid fatalities brought about by reckless riding.

Police also urged them to be organized and take internal measures to ensure professionalism and foster safe road usage.

This message was delivered on September 19, by Inspector of Police (IP) Goretti Uwimana while meeting about 120 cyclists operating in Kigabiro Sector.

The meeting focused on both road safety and strengthening partnership in crime prevention.

IP Uwimana, the District Community Liaison Officer of Rwamagana, reminded cyclists to understand the significance of road safety and wear the required safety gear to minimize impact to human body in case of accidents.

She asked them to always wear helmets and reflectors for easy detection by drivers.

"Road safety rules and regulations are meant to ensure that everyone is safe on roads to carry out their development activities and run their errands safely," the DCLO said.

“You may make yourselves safer and other road users including pedestrians” she noted.

Abdul Kayigamba, the head of the cyclists cooperative reaffirmed that members will be sensitized to heed to police’s call and continue mobilizing members against unlawful conduct and to report wrongdoers.
