Police Sector in Rwamagana District have trained 120 members of Community Policing committees (CPCs) and equipped them with skills in prevention and reporting crimes especially those of genocide ideology.
The training was presided over by the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) Inspector of Police (IP) Goreth Uwimana along with the director of administration and human resources at Rwamagana District, Jean Bosco Byaruhanaga.
In his address to CPC members, IP Uwimana said; “we should always be conscious of the effects of genocidal related acts and collectively fight against them.
“Fighting against genocide ideology is a responsibility for all. We must ensure that anyone who negate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is reported and brought to justice” she said.
She also reminded them that; “During this commemoration period, we should be more vigilant in ensuring community safety and be mindful of anyone intending to threaten survivors or promoting genocide ideology.”
She also urged them to promote the concept of neighborhood watch as means to crime prevention.
“This programme is designed to bridge the gap between the community and the law enforcement. People take part in night patrols in their neighbourhoods to ensure safety of their respective communities,” said IP Uwimana
The director of administration at Rwamagana district, Jean Bosco Byaruhanga hailed Rwanda National Police (RNP) for its continued efforts in ensuring public safety saying that; “The district will be working closely with the security organs to ensure a continuous safety of residents during this commemoration period and after.”
