Commercial motorcyclists in Rwamagana District have been reminded to always be cautious on the road to prevent fatalities.
The call was made District Police Commander (DPC) of Rwamagana, Superintendent of Police (SP) James Rutaremara while addressing motorcyclists in Kigabiro Sector on September 9.
Supt. Rutaremara reminded them that individual behaviour is one of the reasons they end up causing or involving in fatal accidents.
“Value your lives and lives of those you transport but also knowing that there are other people using the same road," the DPC said.
He cautioned them against reckless acts of over speeding, bad maneuvers, carrying more than one person as one of the traffic offences that result into accidents.
He also appealed to them to always stop when they're required by Police officers on roads.
The DPC further appealed to them to be part of fighting and preventing crimes and to report passengers and other people they suspect to be involved in criminal acts especially drug dealers.
Whereas some motorcyclists have been credited for reporting drug dealers others have been arrested for either facilitating drug traffickers or being drug dealers themselves.
Theodore Niyonambaza, who heads a cooperative of motocyclists in Rwamagana pledged to work with their members to fight crimes, but also ensure that they adhere to road safety standards.
