Rwamagana: Agahozo shalom students sensitized on ill-effects of abusing illicit drugs

Amid concerns that the youth are the most likely to consume drugs, Police in Rwamagana District sensitized students of Agahozo shalom on the growing menace.

Police explained to students and teachers about the ill-effects of trafficking and abusing narcotic drugs.

Senior Supt. Felix Bizimana, while addressing the students, stressed on how to cope with peer pressure, learning refusal skills, how to avoid risks from environment and informed them that even a single first time attempt can lead to severe drug addiction.

The students were also told how drug addiction could start from curiosity, experimentation, peer pressure and sometimes difficult family environments.

SSP Bizimana urged teachers to educate their students of the dire consequences of drugs through proper communication methods.

"Parents and teachers should, right from the beginning, initiate healthy communication with their children about drugs," said SSP. Bizimana.

The awareness followed a sports exercise of all the students, which SSP said that it was organised to ensure that they are healthy, focused and informed on healthy living.

Present at the occasion was Vincent Kalimba, the headmaster and the District Police Commander (DPC) of Rwamagana, Supt Edwards Kizza.

Vincent Kalimba was thankful to Rwanda National Police for having conducted such an inspiring sensitization for the students.

The sports exercise also included a friendly football match between the District Police Unit of Rwamagana, which ended 3:1 in favor of Agahozo Shalom.

Football, among other sports disciplines, is one of the RNP community Policing mechanisms.
