Rutsiro residents urged to stand up against domestic wrangles

Residents of Gihango Sector in Rutsiro District were over the weekend asked to own the fight against teenage pregnancies and family conflicts.

The Police call follows various cases of domestic conflicts reported especially in Gihango.

The residents were asked to always reached out to families facing internal wrangles, and to reported them so that the conflicts are resolved before they turn violent.

The message was conveyed by Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Jean Bosco Mugenzi, the District Community Liaison Officer, while sensitizing residents about their role in community policing particularly measures against family wrangles and teenage pregnancies.

“You should always avoid drug abuse and stay faithful to your spouses. Most family conflicts that sometimes results into physical attack among family members, have always occurred as a consequence of drug abuse and infidelity among couples.” AIP Mugenzi observed.

Mugenzi further told residents that, “apart from being a potential source of violence, physical attacks and loss of life, family conflicts also is a hindrance economic prosperity, since the overall social cohesions of a family gets affects and thus making it difficult among family members to discuss and come to consensus as far as family welfare is concerned.”

He also called upon residents to always share information to security agencies and local authorities to insure that family disputes are resolved before they could turn into violence.

Mugenzi warned against self administered justice. “Avoid taking justice into your own hands, always forward any sort of complaints or grievances to the local justice sectors, to resolve your issues. Taking matters in your own hands is equally a crime."
