This was during their meeting with the District Police Commander (DPC), Supt. Boniface Kagenza alongside the District Executive Secretary, Tharcisse Niyonzima.
The meeting was marked with a friendly football match between the the District Police Unit (DPU) of Ritsiro and the commercial motorcyclists, which ended a goalless draw.
The community policing exercise attracted about 600 residents.
Matthieu Ntamugabumwe, the head of COTAMORU thanked the Police for empowering them as well to play their part in ensuring safety and security of their country.
“We all benefit hugely from the overall security that is remarkably visible from all corners of the country. This is why all residents particularly us, who run this business need to be active partners in security issues, by reporting any one that would attempt to frustrate our safety,” Ntamugabumwe said.
The DPC, Supt. Kagenza commended the existing partnership between police and motorcyclists in information sharing on suspected criminals.
He, however, called for more collaborative efforts to effectively prevent all sorts of criminal activities through vigilance and real time information exchange.
“Such sports build stronger partnership but also ensuring a healthy living, which is also a security issue,” Supt. Kagenza said, adding that security is a key pillar for development.
“All that has been achieved is because of security the country continues to enjoy. It, however, require everyone’s continued involvement and participation through community policing initiative to ensure that crimes are deterred and prevented.”
