Police in Rusizi have arrested a 62-year-old man found in Possession of 20 kilograms of Cannabis.
According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira the Western Region Police Spokesperson, the suspect identified as Philimine Sezibera was arrested on April 23, in Bweyeye sector at about 10.00pm.
“He was apprehended red-handed with the drugs found concealed in his bags” said CIP Gasasira.
He said the suspect is believed to have trafficked the drugs from the Republic of Burundi through river Ruhwa demarcating Rwanda and Burundi.
He said he was arrested by routine security night patrols that had information that the suspect usually traffics drugs and sales to people especially youths.
He explained that illicit drugs are classified as one of the major obstacles affecting youth development, affecting education and health sectors.
Thousands of young people currently in rehabilitation centers fall in the age bracket of those supposed to be in school or in the active labor force.
He called for continued partnership and information sharing on suppliers of narcotic drugs so that they are arrested, and to save the young people from the menace of substances.
