Rulindo: Vehicle intercepted trafficking 10000 rolls of cannabis

Police in Rulindo District intercepted a vehicle on February 8, that was loaded with about 10000 pellets of cannabis weighing 180kgs.

The Kigali-bound vehicle; RAA 328H, Toyota Carona type, was intercepted at about 3:30pm in Murambi Sector, Mugambazi Cell in Gahama Village.

The narcotics were concealed in five sacks.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, the successful operations was based on credible information shared by miners in Rutongo concession.

"Police in Rulindo received information from miners in Rutongo concession who suspected that the same vehicle could be transporting illegal goods based on the speed it was moving on," the spokesperson said.

"A roadblock was immediately mounted but on noticing Police officers from a distance, the driver parked the vehicle and runaway. The five sacks that contained about 10, 000 pellets of cannabis weighing 180kgs were impounded to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in Murambi," Rugigana explained.

"We are working with RIB to track and arrest anyone connected to this criminal act."

CIP Rugigana also thanked the vigilance and responsiveness of the miners.

He called upon the general public to always report suspected drug dealers or anything suspicious to supplement the ongoing joint efforts to break chains of supply.
