Residents of Mukoto cell, Bushoki sector in Rulindo District held a meeting on August 7, among others, to discuss on how effective to deal with issues of drug abuse, which are considerably high in the area.
The meeting organized by communities in Mukoto was also attended by Police and local authorities in the district.
Residents resolved that night patrols and neighborhood watch be strengthened which will help to identify and apprehend individuals connection to drug related crimes and theft.
The District Community Liaison Officer Assistant Inspector of Police Emmanuel Dusengimana thanked Mukoto residents for seeking answers within themselves to counter security challenges.
He said besides being illegal and punishable under Rwandan laws, consumption of illicit drugs like cannabis, kanyanga and other dangerous substances have been blamed for other crimes like domestic violence and assault.
He also urged parents to monitor their children and know their habits.
Jean Jacques Uhoranimana, the executive secretary of Mukoto cell also urged residents to maintain the spirit of ensuring own security and appealed to them to embrace the government development policies like Umuganda and subscribe to medical insurance scheme (Mutuelle de santé).
