Rulindo: Police, youth volunteers in human security activities

The District Police Unit of Rulindo and members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) in the district continued their human security activities in Murambi Sector, yesterday, to further strengthen community policing and reinforce human welfare.

The exercise launched on September 1, focuses on raising awareness against crime, promoting hygiene and sanitation, renovating or constructing houses and toilets for the selected disadvantaged families especially those affected by recent disasters.

While addressing residents of Murambi, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Sam Ngororano, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) reminded them that physical security is not enough where the welfare of the people is lacking.

"Being unhygienic and and lack of sanitation is also bring insecure," the DCLO told the residents.

He advised them against living in the same house with domestic animals like goats, rabbits, chicken among others, as one of the means through which people catch animal diseases or illnesses resulting from poor hygiene.

AIP Ngororano further called for strong collaboration and partnership against illicit drugs through information sharing.

“Drugs are one of the major threats to human security. They bleed criminals, cause conflicts in families, deny children to enjoy parental care as they end up leaving their homes and drop out of school but also affects education, health and social sectors," he observed.

Jean de Dieu Nteziryayo, the coordinator of RYVCP in Murambi, said that they will also support efforts against malnutrition through construction of organic garden in every family in Murambi.
