Items including petroleum products and other construction materials stolen from a Chinese company CHICO Limited constructing Base-Gicumbi road have been recovered.
They were recovered by the Police in Bushoki Sector in Rulindo District, from one Emmanuel Rwamucyo, 28, who was also taken into custody.
The District Police Commander for Rulindo, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Laurent Rafiki, said the target operation to arrest the prime suspect and recover the stolen items was based on information from a resident.
“There are some employees of this construction company who steal especially fuel and other petroleum products and sell them to those operating black markets in the area, and Rwamucyo is one of those that buy these stolen petroleum products and unlawfully sells fuel to motorists in the area,” CIP Rafiki said.
He added: “We received information from a resident that Rwamucyo is the one who was behind the latest theft, and indeed when officers raided the house he was using to operate his illegal business they recovered 60 litres of diesel, 20 empty jerrycans, among others, belonging to CHICO Limited.”
“It is not the first time we have arrested people who steal from this road construction firm, and we appreciate the role of residents in facilitating these arrests and recovery of stolen items through credible information sharing,” the DPC said.
Rwamucyo has since been handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in Rulindo.
