Rulindo: Police, CPCs up against drug abuse

Police, local leaders and members of the Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Rukozo Sector in Rulindo District met on October 4 and discussed measures to tighten security.

The meeting dwelt much on fighting trafficking, sell and use of illicit drugs and emphasized the importance of building strong partnership with the people to facilitate timely information flow on wrongdoers.

Louis Niyonambaza, who is in charge Civil Affairs for Rukozo Sector reminded them of their duty to implement security and development initiatives.

He urged the CPC to tighten security night patrols to identify and report wrongdoers and drug dealers in particular, who especially use the cover of the night. CPCs double as grassroots leaders at the village and cell levels.

On his part, Inspector of Police (IP) Callixte Karemera, Kinihira Police Station Commander, thanked the CPCs for driving the community policing ideology in fighting crimes.

IP Karemera outlined illicit drugs, gender based violence, child abuse and petty theft as common crimes that should be given emphasis.

Some parents, he said, keep silent on atrocities their children face like defilement and urged them to report such crimes.
