Police in Rulindo District in collaboration with residents of Shyorongi Sector, have recovered a motorcycle, which was reported stolen recently.
The TVS motorcycle plate number RD 616W, belonging to one Shema Fred, was stolen in Kicukiro District last month.
Chief inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the spokesperson for the Northern region, said the motorcycle was recovered from a suspected thief identified as Jean claude Bizimana alias Petit, 25, a resident of Kirenge Sector in Rulindo.
Bizimana was arrested with the motorcycle.
"Shema had given his motorcycle to one Jean Pierre to use it in commercial activities, but it was stolen from him in Kicukiro," CIP Rugigana said.
He added: "The motorcycle was fitted with a GPS, so it was traced in Shyorongi. Bizimana got to know about the GPS and he disconnected it. However, when Police asked residents where the motorcycle was previously tracked on GPS, they were responsive and named Bizimana as the person who was using it in the area as a taxi-moto."
The spokesperson said that during the operation, which was conducted at night, Police didn't find the motorcycle in Bizimana's house but later during the search, recovered it in the nearby bush.
Bizimana is currently detained at Bushoki Police station and will be transferred to Kicukiro where the crime was allegedly committed.
CIP Rugigana thanked residents of Kirenge for their community policing spirit.
He emphasized the importance of installing GPS devices in motorcycles, among others, to facilitate Police in such circumstances when it's stolen.
