Rulindo family reconciles, advises on solving domestic conflicts

For months, Laurent Rwajekare, 64, and his wife Belancille Mukamukwiye, 63, were embroiled in domestic conflicts, which leaned the family backward.

When Rwajekare failed his responsibilities as the head of the family including providing essential needs, as Mukamukwiye alleges, the latter and her daughter aged 21, decided to sell some family properties.

“He had failed his responsibilities as head of family. So we decided to sell some domestic property,” Mukamukwiye narrates.

Rwajekare was also accused his wife of conniving with their daughter to sell the family assets and disrespecting him.

Today, this family is all smiles as they decided to leave all the past grudges and misunderstanding behind.

On February 19, Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the National Women Commission (NWC) visited and reconciled the couple.

“We are now a new and focused family. Though he had failed the family on one part, I also added an injury to a wound by selling some property for selfish ends, which was also sinking the family further into poverty,” Mukamukwiye explained.

“I thank Rwanda National Police for being a people’s force and spared time to restore unity and peace in my family,” Rwajekare said.

The couple also advised families that could be embroiled in similar or other domestic wrangles to always lodge their complaints to concerned authorities.

Rwanda National Police also calls upon the general community to always report such affected families to prevent the wrangles from turning violent.
