Ruhango: Youth urged to stand up against child abuse

The youth in Ruhango District have been urged to stand up for their rights and report injustices their face to police to facilitate ongoing efforts to ensure that the their rights are protected and promoted.

They were also urged to be agents of safety and security in their homes and communities by reporting unlawful acts they witness.

Inspector of Police (IP) Angelique Abijuru, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) made the call while addressing hundreds of young people at a youth camp for members of Youth in Action (YINA) on August 8.

The event was also attended by residents including parents.

IP Abijuru appealed to parents to ensure that the rights of children are respected, and not exposed to danger. 

“This is the time for everyone to understand their rights and stand up for them by reporting those, who violate them. The minors need to be protected and guided, given essential necessities and kept away from violence,” IP Abijuru said.

She cited several cases of child abuse include neglect and ill-treatment of children by parents and guardians.

Vincent Mvukiyehe, the coordinator of the over 30, 000 YINA youth development association, pledged to continue to uphold and promote the rights of children and to guide them towards the right path, but appealed to parents for support.
