The District Police Commander of Ruhango, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Adrien Rutagengwa called on motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in the district to show more responsibility in road usage in order to ensure sustainable traffic safety.
He delivered the message on November 4 during a meeting he had with representatives of road users in the district.
In his message, CIP Rutagengwa said that traffic safety is something that affects all residents of Ruhango and Rwanda at large, and called for everyone to strive to keep roadways safe by observing traffic rules.
“Adhering to traffic signs and regulations is one of the essential elements of a well-balanced transport and public health policy. Therefore, all road users should protect their lives and the lives of others by being responsible and alert whenever they are on the road,” he said.
“Every road user should evaluate their actions and understand that overspending, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and other vices, not only destroy lives but also bring about economic and environmental challenges. Therefore, not respecting these traffic demands brings unwanted consequences.”
He also reminded motorists to drive with proper documents, and also cooperate with traffic officers through the provision of information on any sight of bad driving.
Raising driver safety awareness is among the priorities of Rwanda National Police – and it is enhanced through implementing traffic enforcement initiatives across the country, through which traffic officers offer tips on sharing the road, and encourage police-public partnerships in ensuring traffic safety.
