Ruhango : Police impounds over 1, 800 litres of illicit brew

A Police operation conducted on November 10 in Ruhango district seized 1, 880 litres of illicit brew called Ibikwangari and 30 litres of Kanyanga, a banned gin in Rwanda.

Ibikwangari is distilled out of dissolved bricks, sugarcane residues, sugar and water.

Thirteen people were also arrested in an operation conducted in Bunyogombe and Buhoro cells in Ruhango sector in connection with making and selling ibikwangari

The District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Thomas Twahirwa,said the suspects were arrested following information by area residents.

"Some members of the public complained of the noise, fighting and theft in the area, especially due to consumption of illicit brew and we responded and arrested thirteen suspects and seized 1880 litres of illicit brew," CIP Twahirwa said.

"The public knows what is good for them and their communities and we are always there to help them," he added, urging the general population to continue providing information on drug dealers and other suspected criminals.
