Police in Ruhango District have arrested five people and recovered various household goods stolen from Ruhango Sector town and various homes around the district.
Sothern region Spokesperson chief inspector of police (CIP) Bonaventure Karekezi said during a display of the stolen goods and suspects yesterday, that the items were recovered during an operation conducted by Ruhango Police Station officers. The operation was undertaken between 6pm and 10pm in the villages of Kinazi and Gataka.
The recovered items include TV flat screen, microphones, lap top, sound amplifiers, iPods among others.
“We invite people whose items were stolen to come forward and identify them…, we are prepared to hand them over now to true owners” said CIP Karekezi.
He identified the suspects who are being detained at Ruhango police station as Emmanuel Twagirumukiza, otherwise known as Gasarenda, Aphrodis Habumugisha , Schadrack Sebanani, Valens Habanabakize and Efuta Nsabiyumva.
CIP Karekezi said all the suspects being investigated by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) were bellow thirty years old.
“All the suspects are not beyond 30 years of age very energetic people who would be engaged in legitimate earning rather than stealing” wondered CIP Karekezi.
He said, according to the complainants the items were stolen after house break-ins and pickpocketing in the town of ruhango.
CIP Karekezi has therefore appealed to individuals whose vehicles have been stolen through the same modus operandi to come at the Police Station to identify their suspects.
The suspect will be charged under section two, article 166 which states that “any person convicted of theft is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than one (1) year and not more than two (2) years and a fine of not less than one million Rwandan francs (FRW 1,000,000) and not more than two million Rwandan francs (FRW 2,000,000), community service in a period of six (6) months or only one of these penalties.
