Ruhango: Community policing committes called to share information in time

Members of the Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Bweramana Sector of Ruhango District were on November 8, asked to always share information on identified criminal acts in time.

They were reminded that delays in information sharing gives room for wrongdoers to accomplish their hatched plan or to evade arrest and justice.

The call was made by Jean Paul Byiringiro, the Executive Secretary of Bweramana sector while speaking to about 200 CPCs.

The meeting aimed at discussing security issues in the sector, and to draw further strategies against identified security challenges.

Illicit drugs, theft, assault, domestic and gender based violence were identified as common security challenges in the sector.

Byiringiro tasked the CPCs, who double as grassroots leaders to make use of the village book to record new members in their respective communities, and report individuals they suspect to be wrongdoers.

On her part, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Angelique Abijuru, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) for Ruhango District, thanked them for their role in community security.

She emphasized the need to identify and report drug dealers as one of the serious and high impact crimes undermining youth and community development.

CIP Abijuru further urged them to report families or couples with domestic conflicts so that they're addressed before they become violent.
