Ruhango: Communities urged to promote family values

Police in Ruhango district have urged residents to desist from all tendencies that may lead to family conflicts and breakdown.

Police says that family restoration will greatly address some social ills such as child mistreatment and violence to women.

The remarks were made by the District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Angelique Abijuru in Kinihira sector during a meeting with community members to sensitize them against lawlessness where she said that individual family violence may have more to do with a neighborhood’s acceptance of the vice.

The root causes of violent crime can be partly attributed to “breakdown of marriage, family, and community responsibilities. It is high time societies begun to recognize violence as a social ill and can be addressed by the community collectively” she noted.

She noted that the inhumane treatment of family members by their closest relatives those who above all others should be their protectors should be opposed by the community and their leaders.

“Most family violence occurs behind closed doors. It is often hidden, unnoticed, or ignored by the same people this should be rejected.” she advised.
