Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing from Rubavu District have been challenged to enhance their vigilance is ensuring public safety through public sensitization campaigns and reporting anyone suspected of ill deeds.
The call was made on March 18 by the District Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Christian Safari during a meeting that brought together representatives of youth volunteers at the sector level.
In his address to youth volunteers’ representatives, SSP Safari told them that several reports indicate that majority of the drug addicts and traffickers are youth and challenged them to influence their peers who may be involved in drug related acts to give up before the long arm of the law catches up with them.
“You meet different people every day, exploit that opportunity and tell them about the dangers of drug consumption on one’s health. Detail the risks involved in drug dealing and make sure you have convinced them to quit,” said the DPC.
SSP Safari reminded them that fighting drug abuse starts from an individual basis by having the courage and the will to end drug abuse.
“The current safety and security in Rwanda is mainly attributed to community policing and the role the public and the youth in particular play in this noble course.”
He challenged themo “be the voice” of the people who might be facing injustices and at all times.
