A woman was arrested on July 5 in Rubavu District after she was found with over 600 rolls of cannabis covered on her head with artificial hair.

Phelomen Nyirahabimana was arrested in Kivu Village of Nengo Cell in Gisenyi Sector.

Nyirahabimana was searched after crossing Racorniche border post from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and police officers found 662 pellets of cannabis concealed in her artificial hair, and she was immediately taken into custody for drug trafficking,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the Police spokespersons for the Western Province, said.

"We also arrested another man identified as Innocent Basabose, also in Gisenyi, was 246 rolls of cannabis hidden beneath the chair of the bicycle he was riding," he added.

According to the spokesperson, the police had received information from people that the two suspects were involved in trafficking narcotic drugs.

He thanked the role of the general public in fighting crimes and drug related in particular, and called for continued cooperation through timely information sharing on anyone they suspect to be involved in any illegal or criminal acts.
