Rubavu: Students talk about drug abuse as they break-off for holidays

Over one thousand students of Groupe Scolaire Gacuba II A and those of TTC Gacuba II were challenged to live a focused life refraining and fighting use and sell of illicit drugs during their holidays.

While speaking to the students in their respective schools, Senior Supt. Karangwa Murenge, the District Police Commander cautioned the youngsters against illicit drugs like Kanyanga, cannabis, chief waragi and African gin and other locally made brew which are blamed for school drop-outs, theft, assault and domestic violence.

SSP Karangwa appealed to the students to desist drug abuse not only while at school but also in holidays and report those involved in time.

Inspector  of Police (IP), Janvier Nsana, the District Community Liaison Officer while speaking to students of  TTC Gacuba II, appealed to them to avoid unnecessary movements in  holidays but rather exploit this time to revise and help their parents and guardians.

Gérard Bahizi, the headteacher of TTC Gacuba II said such guiding messages are vital in nurturing future leaders and asked students to heed the call and be the police ambassadors in fighting crimes in their communities.

“There is no good thing in consuming illicit drugs except making one a failure, a disgrace to the family and society," Grace Umutesi, a senior six student of TTC Gacuba II, said.
