A commercial motorcyclist has been arrested in Rubavu District, Gisenyi Sector in connection with forgery and attempted bribery.
The Police spokesperson for the Western region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, said that the suspect was found with a forged driver's license.
He also lacked other traffic related documents including a transport authorisation permit, a prerequisite for every taxi-moto operator, said Gasasira.
"When Police officers attempted to take him into custody for alleged counterfeit, and to impound the motorcycle, he tried to bribe them, a second crime he was also arrested for," CIP Gasasira said.
He advised traffic offenders to desist from paying bribes so as not to invite even heavier punishments.
"The only way to avoid such consequences is to always comply with the law," he observed.
“Where an offence has been committed, adhere to what the law provides; if you are required to pay a fine, do so, fix the problem and move on with your businesses, rather than a shortcut that would eventually put you in serious troubles,” he advised.
