Rubavu: Man arrested for killing neighbour's cow

Police in Rubavu District, on Wednesday, arrested a man identified as Jean Pierre Sibomana, 35, for allegedly killing a cow belonging to his neighbour.

They are residents of Rwamikungu Village, Nyamikongi Cell, Kanzenze Sector in Rubavu District. 

Sibomana alias Kazungu, was intercepted in Cyanzarwe while fleeing, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said.

"Sibomana found the cow in its kraal, stabbed it and it bled to death. He committed the inhuman act at about 2:45 am Wednesday, and attempted to flee," said CIP Karekezi.

He noted that Sibomana was seen by the victim and his herdsmen that night coming from the kraal blood-soaked.

"Through information exchange with the people, he was located in Cyanzarwe Sector where he was apprehended by the Police and handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau at Kanama station," he explained. 

CIP Karekezi thanked the residents who facilitated the arrest of Sibomana.

According to article 190 of the penal code, maliciously killing livestock is an offence that carries between 6 months and one year imprisonment and a fine between Rwf300, 000 and Rwf500, 000, or one of these penalties.
