Police in Rubavu District is holding five people in connection with the theft of over 700 litres of fuel stolen recently from a Chinese road construction firm.
Police spokesperson for the Western region, Inspector of Police Theobald Kanamugire said that the arrest followed a complaint filed on
November 27 by the management of the construction firm constructing
the Pfunda-Karongo road, over the alleged theft.
“Investigations were immediately launched and they narrowed down to the five people, all employees of the Chinese firm,” IP Kanamugire
said.

guards and one Sylvere Hagenimana, who was in charge of the fuel
store.
They were apprehended later that after a complaint was filed.
Officials from the Chinese firm alleged that some of the fuel was siphoned from their trucks and road construction machines.
“It is so unfortunate that people who have been given jobs and entrusted to carry out a certain duty, are the ones that indulge in such criminal acts. We are still carrying out investigations to arrest
all those that could be connected to this theft, and to recover the stolen fuel,” IP Kanamugire added.
It is not the first time police in the Western province have successfully handled such cases related to theft of fuel and other materials stolen from road construction firms.
