A total of 1263 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Rubavu District completed a two-day crime prevention training in which they were equiped with knowledge and skills to enable them fulfill their duties effectively.
The training was held in Nengo cell, Gisenyi sector on November 12 and 13, focusing on how to identify and address illegal activities.
The District Police Commander (DPC), Senior Supt. Karangwa Murenge, briefed the CPCs on the crimes that prevail in the area including gender and domestic related crimes.
“The focus should be put on crime prevention rather than dealing with consequences,” he noted.
He appealed to participants to continue sensitizing communities in their areas against the consumption and trade of narcotics and illicit brew, noting that the consequences of dealing in such affect everyone.
CSP Murenge asked the CPCs to provide timely information to assist in the prevention of crime.
Participants commended the work of police in maintaining order and security, and committed among other measures, to strengthen their efforts in tightening community night patrols.
Benjamin Kamarampaka, the District Civil Status, lauded Police for the training provided and urged his colleagues to execute them.
He called upon the entire community to always be on guard against crime and report in time any suspicion that may threaten safety and security.
