UNMISS Police Women network extol Rwanda’s approach on gender equality

A two-day seminar of UN Police (UNPOL) Women Network serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) ended on Thursday in South Sudan with participants commending Rwanda’s approach on gender equality that should be replicated in their respective countries.

About 80 female police peacekeepers including 13 Rwandans, took part in the seminar that was presided over by the Special Representative of the Secretary General to UNMISS, David Shearer.

It was also attended by UNMISS Police Commissioner, Commissioner of Police (CP) Bruce Munyambo as well as UNMISS Force Commander, Lt Gen Frank M. Kamanzi. Read more

[PHOTOS]: UN decorates 430 Rwandan Police peacekeepers in CAR

The United Nations has awarded medal of service excellence to 430 Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The decorated officers, who include 58 females, constitute three contingents; two Rwanda Formed Police Units (FPUs) and a Protection and Support Unit PSU, each composed of 140 police officers. Others serve as Individual Police Officers (IPOs), and act as advisors and mentors.Read more

Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi will make communities safer – Minister Nyirasafari

The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Esperance Nyirasafari said that the ideal of Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi (evening of parents), a social cohesion should be given value and strengthened to drive the agenda of togetherness in ensuring community safety and development.

The Minister made the remarks on September 10 in Nyamagabe District, where she attended and addressed Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi in Bwama Cell in Kamegeri.

The community gathering was also attended by the Minister of Health, Dr. Diana Gashumba, the Governor of Southern Province Marie Rose Mureshyankwano, Mayor of Nyamagabe Philbert Mugisha and the District Police Commander, Supt. François Segakware.Read more

Police recover computers, sportswear stolen from Primary School in Muhanga

Police in Muhanga District have recovered nine one-laptop per child computers and seven pairs of sportswear, which are part of an assorted electronics and other scholastic materials stolen from Bwirika Primary School on Monday.

Thieves broke into the school computer laboratory and other offices and stole eleven computer laptops, a printer, four speakers and five mobile handsets.Others include boxes of pens, 45 pairs of sportswear and balls. Read more

[PHOTOS]: Cannabis worth Rwf30 million seized, suspects paraded

Police, yesterday, paraded two men suspected to be part of a 14-man cartel that trafficked about 360kg of cannabis into the country, estimated to be worth Rwf30 million.

The suspects where paraded before residents of Gahara and Mutenderi sectors of Kirehe and Ngoma districts, respectively.

The area is said to be the major transit route for drugs traffickers from the neighboring countries.

In an operation conducted on September 13, Police intercepted the drug traffickers carrying 12 sacks on cannabis. Two of the 14-man gang were doing front and back surveillance along the route while the other 12 were carrying a sack each and moving in pairs, according to Police. Read more

Police breaks mobile banking fraud ring

A man suspected to be the brain behind a spate of mobile banking fraud has been arrested in Gacurabwenge Sector of Kamonyi District.

Isaac Miruho, 32, a commercial motorcyclist in City of Kigali, was taken into custody on September 14 in Kamonyi Village of Gihinga Cell, police spokesperson for the Southern region, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi said.

“By the time of the arrest, Police had received at least three separate cases against Miruho, in which he separately duped three mobile banking agents of Rwf898, 000,” IP Kayigi said. Read more
