RNP receives boxes, modified armoury for firearms storage and control

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, yesterday, received 150 arms steel boxes that were given to Rwanda National Police (RNP) by Regional Centre on Small Arms (RESCA). While receiving the heavy and hard sealed guns storage boxes, the DIGP Marizamunda hailed the existing partnership between RNP and RECSA. He said that the cases will be dispersed to remote police stations to ensure secure and proper management of arms stockpiles. Read More

Police Senior Command students begin study tour

Twenty-eight police students from eight African countries currently pursuing the ‘Police Senior Command and Staff Course’ at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, yesterday, started their study tours aimed at linking theories to realities on ground. The senior officers, who form the 6th intake, are from Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, the host. The internal study tour that began on Monday focuses on Governance, Unity and reconciliation. During their visit at the Rwanda Governance Board, the students met with the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Usta Kayitesi who presented to them the role of good governance in Rwanda's sustainable development. Transitional Justice Tour’ participants visit RNP

Members of the ‘Transitional Justice Tour,’ yesterday, visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) to learn how policing a post- genocide society has been effective and successful in Rwanda. The group is made up of students, members of Non-governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations from Netherlands, USA, Norway, Nepal and Rwanda. Joint campaign against illicit drugs in Burera and Gicumbi

The fight against trafficking, making, selling and use of narcotic drugs continued in the Northern Province on Tuesday as Rwanda National Police (RNP), the ministries of Health and Justice as well as faith-based organizations engaged residents of Burera and Gicumbi districts in the campaign against the vice. The campaign also involved grassroots leaders, head-teachers and teachers, motorcyclists, cyclists, anti-drug and crime clubs, youth volunteers, among others. The Governor of the Northern Province, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi, while addressing residents of Kinyababa Sector in Burera District embarked on the effectiveness of partnership and strengthened community night patrols in addressing the problem. Police join Musanze residents to plant 10,000 trees

Police officers in Musanze District were this Thursday joined by residents in a afforestation exercise where they planted about 10, 000 trees on a 15 hectare land in Kinigi Sector. The exercise is part of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) plan, which started late last year, to plant at least 50763 of trees across the country in the next two years. It also falls within the national afforestation programme as well as the existing agreement between RNP and the Ministry of Forestry signed in November last year to jointly partner to protect, conserve and develop lands and forestry. Addressing residents after planning the trees, the Executive Secretary of Kinigi Sector, Marie Gilberta Uwiragiye urged them to take the responsibility of planting and protecting the trees in their neighbourhoods as a contribution to the government’s target under the environmental protection programme. Handball League: Police beat St. Aloys to maintain lead

Police Handball club beat Groupe Scolaire St. Aloys 42-28, on Saturday to continue to chase their sixth championship trophy. Man of the Match Gaston Kanyandekwe scored 10 goals, Norbert Tuyisenge netted eight times while Norbert Duteteriwacu scored six to guide the law enforcers to a deserved victory on Day Nine of the National Handball League Championship. The win extends the lead for the record five-time champions to maximum 27 points to continue to manage the log, scoring 226 goals in all league games. Read More

Five health center staff arrested over theft

Police in collaboration with Rwanda Investigation Bureau have arrested five people including three nurses at Kayanga Health Center in Gasabo District, for allegedly stealing several equipment and drugs. The items including laboratory equipment, ward furniture and medical drugs from the pharmacy, were stolen over time. The implicated nurses were identified as Violette Nyirantabaruye, Pascal Ndayisaba and Felicien Nyangabo. Two other suspects identified as Skolastika Uwambazamariya and Innocent Mutsindashyaka, are clears at the health centre located in Rutunga Sector, who also had access to the stores. Uwambazamariya is a wife to Ndayisaba. Read More

Commercial motorcyclists to respect traffic rules, report wrongdoers

Members of COTAM, a cooperative of commercial motorcyclists in Ngororero District, have been urged to change their behavior while on the road to prevent likely accidents that may arise out of their inappropriate behavior. Behaviours is said to be one of the causes of road accidents. They were also urged to fight and report crimes, and actively take part in development activities. The call was made by the vice mayor of Ngororero in charge of Economic Development, Christine Kanyange, while meeting the motorcyclists recently. Read More

Over 1000 vehicles undergo mechanical inspection in Northern Province

The Mobile Test Lane has concluded its vehicle mechanical inspection services in the Northern Province with at least 1056 vehicles inspected. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jean Marie Vianney Ndushabandi, the Traffic and Road Safety Spokesperson, out of the 1056 that were tested, 556 vehicles passed the inspection and were issued with the certificate, while others had some mechanical faults that required to be fixed first. The Mobile Test Lane, which was stationed in Musanze District since April 25, also served automobiles from the neighboring districts of Nyabihu, Rubavu, Rutsiro and Ngororero, all from the Western Province. “The mobile test lane rotates in different provinces as part of Rwanda National Police’s programme to bring services closer to the people,” SSP Ndushabandi said. Two SACCO employees arrested for embezzling Rwf15.8 million

Two employees of a savings and credit cooperation of Nemba in Gakenke District have been arrested in connection with embezzlement of over Rwf15.8 million from the Sacco coffers. According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, the duo was taken into custody on May 6 following an audit by the National Bank of Rwanda, which revealed that a total of Rwf15, 811, 500 was either embezzled or unaccounted for. The spokesperson identified the suspects as Clotilde Mukantabana, 34, and Afrodis Nsabimana, 26. “Mukantabana is implicated in the embezzlement of Rwf15, 465, 000 while Nsabimana was implicated in the embezzlement of Rwf346, 500,” CIP Twizeyimana said.
