Police officers donate blood

Close to 700 Police officers, yesterday, donated blood as part of the force's efforts to boost the national blood banks managed by the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (NCBT). Led by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, Commissioners, Senior, Junior, and Non-Commissioned officers, queued the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru in the voluntary blood donation exercise. Police calls for ‘extra care’ mining during rainy season

Rwanda National Police (RNP) is calling upon those involved in mining activities to take extra caution especially in this rainy season to prevent likely disasters that may arise out of unprofessional practices. The force also called on owners of mining concessions to take “all safety precautions” to prevent illegal practices that also cause fatalities. The call follows two separate incidents in Gasabo and Muhanga districts that claimed lives of two men, who were mining. Read More

Man arrested for impersonating WASAC employee

Police in Nyanza District arrested one Boniface Uwase 30, on September 27, for allegedly impersonating an employee of Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC). The suspect was caught red-handed donning in the utility body field uniform guising as an engineer. “He was at the time cutting power transmission lines in Mukingo Sector,” Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi, police spokesperson for the Southern region, said.  “Residents saw Uwase cutting power-lines, and got suspicious; they called police, and during questioning, officers found out that he is not an employee of WASAC, who was attempting to vandalise and steal electricity cables and other equipment,” IP Kayigi said. Namibian lawmakers tour Isange One Stop Centre on GBV response

Isange One Stop Centre is one of the effective services that African countries should embrace to fight to injustices women and children continue to face, the visiting Namibian lawmakers said yesterday. The parliamentarians were visiting Isange One Stop Centre at Kacyiru hospital as part of their tour in Rwanda since last Saturday to learn good practices in the fight against gender based violence and child abuse, among others. “As lawmakers, we decided to undertake a trip to Rwanda to share experiences and best practices on services that all of us as Africans should deliver for the good of our people,” Hilma Nicanor, one of the Namibian lawmakers, said. Two house-helps arrested over theft of Rwf2 million

Two house-helps have been arrested in Kigali in connection with stealing Rwf2.5 million from their employer. Anicet Ngirimana, 26, and Esther Tumukunde allegedly stole the money from one Guido Murenzi, their employer, in Kacyiru Sector of Gasabo District on September 26. Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu said that only Rwf1, 862,500 was recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest. Read More

Eight more drivers arrested over bribery

Merely a week after police arrested 12 drivers over bribery, eight others have been arrested in Gicumbi District. The arrests on September 27 came after the drivers, who had been caught for traffic-related offences, tried to bribe the officers to escape penalties. According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety Department, the drivers had been found driving without or with expired documents, overloading or transporting unauthorized luggage. He identified the suspects as Leonard Tugume, Ismael Habimana, Dieudonne Ntezebose, Muli Mwikuyu, Eulade Bakundukuze, George Barutwanayo, Mwase Bakali and Onesmass Abomugisha. Malian officials commend Rwanda’s anti-corruption approach

A delegation from Mali composed of members of the Central Office against illicit enrichment and members of Supreme Court, yesterday, visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) where they commended the force’s efforts in fighting corruption. The delegation led by the president of Mali Central Office against illicit enrichment, Moumouni Guindo, made the remarks after a presentation by Commissioner for Inspectorate of Services and Ethics, ACP Jean Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi that captured Rwanda’s best practices in fighting graft and precisely how the vice is fought within the force. Guindo said that he highly appreciate the professionalism and dedication with which Rwanda National Police (RNP) engages in fighting against corruption. Read More

Deputy IGP Marizamunda briefs Police FC ahead of new season

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda, on September 27, met players and coaching staff of Police Football Club ahead of the new season, and urged them to “stay focused and determined” to challenge for the national league trophy. While pledging the Rwanda National Police (RNP) support, the Deputy IGP said that “success results from teamwork and determination.” The 2017/2018 Azam National League is scheduled to start on September 29. Police FC will play their opening match away against Etincelles on September 30 before again trekking to Huye on October 13 to face Mukura Victory. Read More   

Mayor Nyamulinda drums call for concerted effort against illicit drugs

The mayor of City of Kigali, Pascal Nyamulinda has called for ownership of local leaders and the people to reinforce police efforts to break chains of illicit drugs supply. He said that the concept of community policing fulfils the joint ideal of security and hygiene, which binds both Rwanda National Police and the City of Kigali to make the capital safe and clean. Mayor Nyamulinda was speaking yesterday in Nduba Sector of Gasabo District shortly after a public to exercise to dispose of illicit drugs. The psychotropic substances, which include about 900kgs of cannabis and 2200 litres of contrabands including crude gin - kanyanga - were seized in various police operations in Kigali in the last three months. Man arrested for impersonating migration employee

Police in Kigali is holding one Frank Mugisha, who was arrested impersonating migration personnel and defrauding unwitting people promising to get them travel documents. Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, the central region police spokesperson confirmed that Mugisha, currently being held at Kacyiru police station, was arrested on September 21, at the migration head offices in Kacyiru while trying to con one of the people who were at the time seeking travel documents. According to Yves Butera, the Public Relations Officer of Immigration and Migration directorate, they had information about people, who guise as employees of the directorate to defraud people. Gakenke: Police join residents in Umuganda

Police in Gakenke District joined residents of Rusagara in Gakenke sector in Umuganda that mainly focused on environmental protection. During the communal exercise that was also attended by district leaders headed by the mayor, Deogratias Nzamwita alongside the District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police Jean Berchmas  Dusengimana, over 3.5 hectares of terraces were prepared. 780 litres of diesel seized in operations against illegal trade of fuel

Police operations against theft and illegal sell of petroleum products conducted in Bugesera District, seized 39 jerrycans of diesel, about 780 litres. The fuel was seized in three separate operations in Rilima sector, in which at least ten people were arrested in connection with the act, inspector of Police )IP) Jean Bosco Dusabe, Police spokesperson for the Eastern Province, said. In the latest operation conducted on September 24, Police arrested the trio of Jean Claude Uyiringire, 32, Steven Silas Ngirwa, 46, and Confiance Maniraguha, 33, with eight jerrycans of diesel.
