END OF YEAR MESSAGE BY H.E THE PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE; TO RWANDA DEFENCE AND SECURITY FORCES\

 

ON BEHALF OF THE GOVERNMENT OF RWANDA, MY FAMILY AND MY OWN BEHALF, I WANT TO TAKE THIS MOMENT TO WISH ALL OFFICERS, MEN AND WOMEN OF THE RWANDA DEFENCE AND SECURITY FORCES AND YOUR FAMILIES A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2019.

Security calm in this festive period

The security situation in this festive period remains "generally calm and peaceful" with no major incidents, Rwanda National Police  (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said Wednesday. 

CP Kabera also hailed the conduct of people during their varied celebrations, which he said were organised and done in an orderly and safer manner.

“The security situation continues to be calm across the country with people going about their normal businesses and merrymaking as usual,” CP Kabera said.

He went on to reassure the general public of their safety but urged them to "enjoy responsibly and peacefully" respecting the culture and beliefs of others.

"There were isolated cases on Christmas Day including road accidents largely caused by excessive consumption of alcohol, over speeding and reckless driving," CP Kabera said. Read More

Motorists welcome extension of mechanical inspection service hours

 

Motorists have welcomed the extension of operating hours at the Motor-vehicle Mechanical Inspection Center (MIC) saying it has improved service delivery.

Rwanda National Police (RNP), last week announced the extension of working hours from 6m to midnight. The new changes also reduced time after booking for inspection from 24 hours waiting period to just one hour.

When this reporter visited MIC in Remera Sector, Gasabo District at about 10am, queues of vehicles could be seen with majority drivers saying they had booked for inspection that very morning. 

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jean Marie Ndushabandi, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety Department, the changes were informed by the need to improve efficiency and effectiveness in offering better services. Read More

Over 1000kgs of stolen lubricants recovered

Police in the City of Kigali have recovered five drums of lubricant weighing about 1000kgs, which were stolen recently from China Road Construction Company.

The drums were recovered on December 25, from the house of one Jean De Dieu Bimenyimana located in Murehe Village, Akamatamu Cell of Jabana Sector in Gasabo District. 

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said that Bimenyimana was also taken into custody over the crime alongside three others. Read more

 

Stolen sewing machines recovered

Two people have been arrested in Nyarugenge District in connection with the recent theft of eleven sewing machines from Maison de Jeune Kimisagara, a youth development organization centre in Gitega Sector. 

At least eight of the stolen sewing machines were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest on December 23.

On December 18, thieves broke into the offices of the youth development center located in Gitega Sector, Akabahizi Cell, Gihanga Village and stole the eleven machines meant for vocational trainingRead more

 

Nyabihu: How Police intercepted two ‘big drug traffickers

 

Police in Nyabihu District arrested, on Sunday, two notorious drug traffickers with 2138 rolls of cannabis.

The suspects; a man and a woman said to have been trafficking cannabis from the Democratic Republic of Congo, were intercepted in Kagere Village, Kora Cell in Bigogwe sector at around 8am en-route from Rubavu District, Police said.

They had worn the pellets inside their clothes in an attempt to beat security.

“In the wee hours of Sunday, Police in Nyabihu received a phone call from a resident privy to one of the suspect’s (man) criminal dealings. The caller was specific that the suspect was to ‘bring new stock’ that very morning from Rubavu,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, said. Read more
