[PHOTOS]: MINUSCA Force commander visit Rwandan Police peacekeepers in CAR
The incoming and outgoing Joint Taskforce commanders for Bangui (JTFB), under the United Nations Multidimensional Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA), on December 29, visited the base camp for Rwanda Formed Police Unit One (RWAFPU I), and urged them to remain focused to their mandate.
Brig. Gen. MoumouniZankaro (outgoing) and his successor Col. Major Mouhamed Mounir were received in the RWAFPU-I based camp in the capital Bangui, by the contingent commander, Chief Supt. Sam Rumanzi, who briefed them on their operations. Read more
[PHOTOS]: Seized narcotics worth Rwf16 million destroyed in Kigali
Assorted narcotic drugs worth over Rwf16.7 million seized in various Rwanda National Police (RNP)-led operations in the City of Kigali, were disposed of on December 29 at Nduba landfill in Gasabo District.
The destroyed narcotics seized in last three months, include over 900 kilogrammes of cannabis, 3330 litres of locally made illicit brew, 446 litres of crude gin locally known as Kanyanga, fake or expired fertilisers, petroleum products including 2060 litres of diesel and 137 litres of petrol seized on the black market, among others.
The Police-led exercise falls under the ongoing nationwide campaign against drugs, which brings together different players including ministries of Health, Youth, Justice, Local Government, as well as Prosecution and National Rehabilitation Services (NRS), among others. Read more
[PHOTOS]: Senior gov’t officials engage northern residents on fighting illicit drugs
All roads led to Rusarabuye Sector in Burera District on December 27 as top government officials and security organs engaged thousands of residents to own and strengthen community policing efforts to combat drug related crimes, which are still rated high in the country and affecting mainly the young generation.
The outreach exercise included ministers; Francis Kaboneka of Local Government, Dr. Diane Gashumba of Health, Rosemary Mbabazi of Youth, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana, Governor of the Northern Province Jean Marie VianneyGatabazi and Prosecutor General Jean Bosco Mutangana, among others.
The government awareness campaign against drugs included separate meetings with local leaders, residents, public destruction of seized narcotics and parading of about 160 suspected drug dealers that were arrested with the disposed of substances.
About 2918 dozens of banned contrabands in different brands seized in various police operations in Burera, recently, were disposed of. Read more
Nyamasheke: Police officers donate blood
Police officers and administrative security personnel – DASSO – operating in Nyamasheke District on December 28, donated blood as part of the nationwide voluntary exercise to support the blood bank.
The exercise was guided by the Dr. Kazayire Marie Fidele from the National Center for Blood Transfusion.
The District Police Commander of Nyamasheke, Supt. BurahindaNtacyo led the voluntary donation exercise.About 1000 Police officers have so far donated blood this year. Read more
[PHOTOS]: Counterfeit products worth Rwf33 million seized in operation
Counterfeit, substandard and illicit products worth over Rwf33 million have been seized from the market in a joint operation conducted last week.
The results of the two-day operation conducted between December 20th and 21st, were made public, on December 29, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
The assorted substandard, counterfeit and illicit goods seized in the countrywide operation, include foodstuffs, medical drugs, lotions, perfumes and powdered milk.
Others include veterinary drugs, fertilizers and animal feed, alcoholic drinks including wines and spirits as well as locally made alcoholic beverages; either illicit, parked contrary to standards or plagiarized.
The regional operation under the auspice of the international police – Interpol – was conducted and results released concurrently in all the thirteen Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) member countries. Read more
Man arrested with fake Euros
Police in Remera, Gasabo District is holding a man said to be part of the ring that circulates counterfeit currencies.
LivineNsaguye was apprehended on December 26 at a forex bureau located at Kisementi, where he was attempting to exchange fake Euros amounting to 3250, approximately Rwf3.3 million.
Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu said that “investigations have identified other people connected to this financial crime.” Read more
Governor Gatabazi urges Musanze grassroots leaders to intensify measures against narcotics
The Governor of Northern Province, Jean Marie VianneyGatabazi called upon grassroots leaders in Musanze District to join hands ad to work with the residents and security organs to fight narcotic drugs.
The Governor made the remarks while addressing about 1000 people including sector and cell executive secretaries, and village leaders from the sectors of Muhoza, Cyuve, Musanze and Kimonyi.
The Governor urged them to put much effort in fighting illicit drugs and child pregnancies. Read more
Musanze: Trio held over smuggling
Three people were on December 25 arrested in Musanze District after they were found smuggling assorted goods.
One of the suspects identified as Jean Marie VianneyMbonabihama, Police said, he’s also facing charges of attempted bribery after he tried to seduce an officer attached to Revenue Protection Department (RPD) with Rwf100, 000 in order to release his motorcycle that had been impounded after it was intercepted carrying smuggled goods.
Police spokesperson for the Northern region, Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Gasasira identified other two suspects as Emmanuel Sibomana and Murekatete Masengesho.
“The suspects were smuggling varied goods including second-hand clothes, liquors and beers, which were also seized and handed over to RPD,” IP Gasasira said. Read more
Muhanga: Owners of hospitality facilities cautioned on serving alcohol to minors
The mayor of Muhanga District, Beatrice Uwamariya urged owners and management of hotels, restaurants, and bars to protect the rights of children by not serving them alcoholic beverages.
Uwamariya also reminded owners of entertainment spots not to allow in under-aged children, which is illegal and punishable by the law.
In a meeting that brought together owners and representatives of the service sector in Muhanga including hotels, restaurants, motels, bars and night clubs, among others, the mayor urged them to take precaution and ensure that no child is served alcohol or indulges in other malpractices. Read more
