1500 police officers to get accommodation as Minister Busingye inaugurates hostels
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye inaugurated the newly constructed Rwanda National Police (RNP) staff hostels as part of the force’s effort to further improve the welfare of officers.
The three-storied facility constructed in a space of 13 months is located inside the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru, and valued at over Rwf2.4 billion including equipment worth over Rwf335 million. The money is part of the welfare fund for the officers.
The building, which had both male and female wings has the capacity to accommodate at least 1500 police officers divided in three sections according to ranks; senior and junior as well as Non-Commissioned Officers’ sections. Read more
RNP, City of Kigali launch joint security and hygiene campaign
The seventh edition of the “Security and Hygiene” campaign was launched with activities of Umuganda where Kigali residents joined officials, Rwanda National Police (RNP) and Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) officers in cleaning up different parts of the city.
The two-month campaign spearheaded by City of Kigali and RNP aims at bringing various players on board to strengthen security and hygiene
The official launch of the activities held in Muhima of Nyarugenge District was presided over by the Mayor of the City of Kigali, Pascal Nyamulinda, who was flanked by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana. Read more
Minister Kaboneka inaugurates Police facilities constructed by residents in Nyamasheke
The Minister of Local Government Francis Kaboneka hailed the existing good partnership between members of public, Police and local government entities, which has made enormous contribution in prevailing security and peace.
The minister was speaking in Nyamasheke District where he inaugurated various facilities constructed for Rwanda National Police (RNP) by the residents of Nyamasheke as a gesture of partnership in policing.
The inaugurated District Police Unit of Nyamasheke, which also houses the Police station of Ruharambuga, and Kanjongo Police station as well as staff-quarters for officers, were constructed at a tune of over Rwf42 million, which is a contribution by the residents and the district. Read more
Police cracks down on illegal private security companies
Rwanda National Police (RNP) said security is a sensitive area, and added that it will crackdown on any companies or individuals offering private security services illegally.
RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Theos Badege, said that although the government provided for private security services as a business venture, it also set out proper rules and guidelines that should be followed to ensure quality services and professionalism.
The warning follows the indefinite suspension of two private security firms mid this week, which were found operating without license. Read more
Minister Mbabazi challenges youth on change
The Minister of Youth Rosemary Mbabazi challenged the youth to be a vibrant force in the country's transformation process.
She said that their role in security and development should be visible to make the country clean, green and safe.
Minister Mbabazi was speaking in Mageragere Sector of Nyarugenge District where she addressed about 1500, shortly after a communal work - Umuganda.
At least 2000 trees were planted in Kankuba Cell during Umuganda. Read more
Rwandan Police peacekeepers in Haiti conduct Umuganda
As Rwandans back home came together in a monthly communal work commonly known as Umuganda, the Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) also engaged in the similar community development activities in the Caribbean nation.
The peacekeepers under Formed Police Unit Eight (RWAFPU VIII) of 140 officers, were joined by residents of Zone Two in Jeremie commune of the Grande Anse region, where they are deployed.
They rehabilitated a road covering a distance of about 1.5km, which had been destroyed by rain and paralyzed the traffic flow and the business in general. Read more

The hidden cost of poor hygieneEvery last Saturday of the month, communities come together to clean up their neighbourhoods in a communal exercise locally known as Umuganda.
At least twice a year, local authorities partner with the police in running a campaign dubbed “Security and Hygiene.”
They clean up different neighborhoods but most importantly, they move house to house tutoring residents and showing them potential dirt that is piling or have piled up in their compounds over time.
There is much hope that the homes visited will maintain standards of sanitation and hygiene. Unfortunately, some care less about the lessons offered.
Littering has not been completely done away with; garbage management is yet to be an expected culture of every household, and even neighbours – sometimes – are bothered or don’t raise a complaint.
City authorities come back after six or so to offer the same lessons and the sequence goes on and on. Read more
Two private security firms suspended
Rwanda National Police (RNP) has indefinitely suspended two private security companies that were operating illegally.
According to the Commissioner for Private Security Service Providers Department at RNP, Chief Supt. Toussaint Muzezayo the suspended firms are; Security Company Against Robbery (SCAR) and Indatemwa Security Company. Read more

High level of vigilance paying off in fighting circulation of fake currencies, says PoliceRwanda National Police (RNP) has said that the highest level of vigilance by the business community and the public in general has become a great and successful tool in fighting circulation of counterfeit currencies in the country.
The force said that airtime vendors and mobile banking agents, forex bureaus, banks and small shops in villages that used to be the most targeted, have today become a major source in identifying and arresting people involved in this financial crime, said to have ill-effects on the economy.
This comes a day after at least six people were arrested separately on Tuesday attempting to fleece the business community with fake currency notes amounting to about Rwf7, 380, 000, all together. Read more
Police FC beat Musanze to go top in National League
Christophe Biramahire's second half goal against Musanze in a match played Sunday, elevated Police Football club to the top of the National Azam Premier League.
The lonely goal in the 75th minute came as a reward to many fruitless efforts as Musanze goalkeeper kept the goalposts firm.
Earlier in the 18th minute of the first half, striker Justin Mico came close to putting the law enforcers in front, but the ball went slightly wide.
The hardly fought but deserved win away in Musanze on Day Four of the national football league, took Police FC to the summit of the table with nine points, two ahead of AS Kigali, Rayon Sport and APR, who are all tied at seven points, but separated by goal difference. Read more
