Youth volunteers in community policing clean Genocide memorial sites

Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing, last Saturday, conducted a special Umuganda dedicated to cleaning and rehabilitating Genocide memorial sites across the country. According to Eric Bayisenge Twahirwa, the executive secretary of the youth group composed of about 250, 000, the voluntary exercise is in line with the forthcoming 24 Genocide commemoration. “Since December last year, we as the youth, decided to conduct Umuganda twice every month… attending to issues at hand related to human security and government community development programmes among others. So, since we are approaching the commemoration period, we have decided that we mainly dedicate our activities to cleaning and rehabilitating Genocide memorial sites but also supporting survivors in various ways possible,” Bayisenge said. RNP peacekeepers in South Sudan participate in ‘walk for health’ competition

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) took part in the 10 kilometre walk for health competition. Five Rwandan Police peacekeepers, who are part of the Rwanda Formed Police Unit (RWAFPU2) deployed in Juba, represented their contingent in the competition organized by United Christians Assembly of Nations (UCAN) to observe its 5th anniversary. United Christians Assembly of Nations founded in 2013 by Mama Rose Martin-King, a Liberian, as a ‘Christ’s ambassadors’ to impact lives and support the disadvantaged communities. Read More

Road safety campaign shifts to motorcyclists

he road safety campaign aimed at averting accidents continued yesterday across the country with focus on commercial motorcyclists, one of the leading causes of accidents. The awareness campaign was conducted concurrently in all the 30 districts to reach out to the over 55, 000 motorcyclists in the country. In the City of Kigali, which has more than 13000 motorcyclists, the Regional Police Commander-Central, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Felly Rutagerura Bahizi said that although motorcyclists contribute to the country’s development, their conduct on road also continue to raise security concerns. IGP Gasana urges Karongi, Rusizi motorcyclists to ‘put safety first’

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana has called upon commercial motorcyclists in Karongi and Rusizi districts to put their lives ahead in their transport business to avoid accidents that arise out of their reckless behaviors on road. The Police Chief made the call, yesterday, while addressing motorcyclists from the two Western districts as part of the ongoing campaign against accidents especially caused or involving motorcyclists. He thanked them for their cooperation and collaboration with the Police in fighting and preventing crimes, and for being part of the country’s development but urged them to all operate in cooperatives and ensure hygiene. Police Handball Club starts 2018 championship with win

Police Handball Club started off the national handball league championship 2018 with a win beating College Inyemeramihigo 47-34 in the season opener played this Saturday away in Rubavu. The first half of the game ended with Police Handball Club ahead with 24-16 and sealed its win in the second half. The match top scorer was Police's Viateur Rwamanywa, who scored 10 goals while Fidele Hagenimana and Gilbert Mutuyimana scored 7 and 6 goals, respectively. Police will be trying to revive its glory after losing the national championship trophy to rivals APR, last season. Read More

Two illegal distilleries closed

About 31560 litres of locally made illicit brew were seized and disposed of in Ngororero and Gakenke districts as part of the ongoing operations against illegal distilleries and fighting illicit drugs. The substances were seized in two separate operations conducted by Police, Rwanda Standards Bureau and local leaders. About 27000 litres were seized when Police raided an illegal plant owned by one Pierre Claver Niyondora in Rususa Sector, Ngororero District. Other 4560 litres of the substances called Ubusabane owned by one Annonciatte Mukeshimana under her company name Leo Amigo Limited were seized from an illegal distillery in Rusagara Cell in Gakenke Sector on Monday.
