RNP peacekeepers in South Sudan win ‘DANCON March’

Sixteen Rwandan Police peacekeepers joined their counterparts from 44 countries serving in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in a route march dubbed ‘The Dancon March’. The march held on March 10, was marked with a walk that covered 25 kilometers carrying a 10kg backpack. March 8 is International Women’s Day. It is the day for the world to reflect on the problem of inequality that reflects itself in a multitude of harmful ways that not only hinder the life chances of women and girls across but also affect their health. On this day President Paul Kagame sent to the world a message intended to raise not only the thinking but also the actions around this challenge. He said; “Women are a cornerstone of prosperity for society as a whole. There is an unacceptably high cost to gender based inequality. It is important to act together. Over 270 ISCO personnel complete Basic Guard Course at PTS

A total of 277 private security personnel working with Intersec Security Company (ISCO), yesterday, completed a three-month ‘Basic Guard Course’ at Police Training School (PTS) in Gishari, Rwamagana District. Thirty-seven of the participants were female. At the pass out, trainees demonstrated skills acquired during the training that mainly consisted of operational skills. “The 12-week long training was intense since it aimed at equipping the trainees with necessary skills for them to effectively do their job. We have no doubt the skills acquired will be beneficial to the public,” the commandant of PTS, Commissioner of Police (CP) Vianney Nshyimiyimana, said during the pass out. Read More

We share best practices in fighting corruption, says Burkina Faso officials

Three officials from Burkina Faso, on March 14, visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) where they commended Rwanda’s zero tolerance to corruption policy and strategic commitment of the force to enforce the national policy on graft. Upon arrival at RNP headquarters, the delegation was received and briefed by the RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) Theos Badege along with the commissioner for Inspectorate of Services and Ethics, ACP Jean Nepo Mbonyumuvunyi and several police officers. The delegation led by the Coordinator of the National Coordination and Control of Police in the Ministry of Security in Burkina Faso, Barry Mamoudou pointed out that they have captured Rwanda’s best practices in fighting graft and precisely how the vice is fought within the force. Suspected conman arrested over ‘fake job recruitment’

Police in Kigali have arrested a man identified as Denis Shyaka, 36, for allegedly hoodwinking unwitting members of the public of money with false promises to find them jobs in different institutions. Shyaka, who is currently being detained Remera police station, was arrested in Rebero Village, Kamukina cell in Kimuhurura sector on March 13, while receiving Rwf50, 000 from one of the victims. The suspect was masquerading as an employee of Rwanda development board (RDB), Police said. Read More

Ruhango: SACCO cashier under probe over fraud

Police in Ruhango District are holding one Marie Chantal Mukeshima a cashier at a local savings and credit cooperative on charges of fraud and soliciting bribes from clients. Mukeshimana’s arrest on March 11 came after some SACCO members refused to stomach her habitual bribery requests and decided to report her to police. According to the Southern Region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi, Police received information that financially disadvantaged people in Ntongwe Sector, who were receiving financial support from Government were illegally being charged Rwf2000 every time they made a transaction at the SACCO branch. “Each of the victims was supposed to receive Rwf30, 000 but Mukeshima was allegedly giving them only Rwf28, 000, and charging every beneficiary Rwf2, 000,” CIP Kayigi said.
