Rwanda, South Sudan Police forces discuss on deepening partnership

Rwanda and South Sudan police institutions held discussions to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas of policing. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana and his counterpart of South Sudan Gen. Majak Akec Malok headed their respective delegations in a meeting at the Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru. Kwibuka24: Minister Uwacu calls for media professionalism

The Minister of Sports and Culture, Julienne Uwacu called upon media practitioners to be more vigilant, be professional in reporting during the upcoming 24th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi not to be used to advance genocide ideologies. She was speaking during the Police-media interact held at Rwanda National Police Headquarters. Minister Uwacu hailed the current relations between the police and the media which she said benefits particularly Rwandans. The commemoration that starts on April 7 will be held under the theme: "Remember the Genocide against the Tutsi - Fight Genocide Ideology - Build on Our Progress.” Read More

Arrest of refugees over incitement

On Wednesday 28 March, a joint team of officials from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs, Ministry of Health, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other stakeholders carried out a physical verification visit to refugee camps housing Burundian refugees in Bugesera, Nyanza and Rusizi districts. RNP in fresh environmental protection drive

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has began a new campaign aimed at enhancing environmental protection mechanisms. The RNP Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) has since last Tuesday started separate meeting with district officials to draw strategies geared towards proper ecosystem management. According to the director of EPU, Supt. David Bwimba, the campaign that started on March 27, in Kayonza District will continue across the country. It brings together officials charged with environmental protection  at the district level to discuss issues related to environment taking into account that some districts have special cases that requires special approach,  Supt.  Community Policing: Rwamagana launches 'professional Irondo patrol'

The community policing aspect took another level in Rwamagana District last Tuesday when the district leadership launched the 'Professional Irondo night patrol.' The professional community night patrol locally known as 'Irondo ry'umwuga' was launched in four sectors of Munyaga, Rubona, Gahengeri and Fumbwe. The Tuesday launch means that all sectors of Rwamagana have professional Irondo following a similar exercise conducted in other sectors recently. Read More

Five stolen motorcycles recovered in Gisagara

Five motorcycles reportedly stolen from different people were recovered in Gisagara District on March 28.  Police spokesperson for the Southern region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kayigi said that one of the prime suspects behind these series of theft identified as Jean Bosco Hategekimana was also arrested during the operation. “A motorcycle was reported stolen in Kigali but it had a GPS. The tracker located the motorcycle in Sabudari Village of Bweya Cell, Nfora Sector in Gisagara,” said CIP Kayigi. Read More

Police, Media discuss on 'practical partnership'

A workshop between Rwanda National Police and the Media was held last week with the two parties deliberating on how best to further enhance partnership in a more practical way that would benefit the general public. While opening the workshop at the RNP General Headquarters, Gerald Mbanda, the Head of Media Affairs and Communication Department at Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) spoke at length about the achievements made towards realizing and enforcing freedom of expression, promoting democracy and public order. “Where there is security, people enjoy their rights and this is what we are experiencing – thanks to the good relations of police and the media,” said Mbanda. Police medical personnel undergo basic training on mental healthcare

At least 51 health professional from various units of Rwanda National Police (RNP) held a four-day training on mental health policy and care. The training seeks to enrich their understanding in assessment and management of acute agitation, psychiatric interview and mental status examination; psychological and mental health first aid services; counseling; as well as assessment and management of drug and alcohol use related mental disorders.
